Portico Library art print from a charcoal drawing of Mosley Street, Manchester, featuring The Portico Library and Bank Pub. Opened in 1806, The Portico is an independent subscription library and has had many notable members, including Sir Robert Peel, William Gaskel, and Eric Cantona. Its first secretary, Peter Mark Roget, began his thesaurus here. In stark contrast to the surrounding modern architecture, the Library has been described as "the most refined little building in Manchester". This drawing takes a wide angle view of Mosley Street, looking up towards Piccadilly Gardens, with half the street in sun and the other half in shade.
This print is part of my Manchester Art Prints collection.
