A panoramic landscape showing a footpath leading to Kinder Scout, the highest area in the Peak District National Park in England and the start of the Pennine Way. This piece features PNFS signpost no 2 at OS grid reference SK 04986 88308. The title of this piece comes from the song ‘The Manchester Rambler’ by Ewan McCall which has the line ‘I may be a wage slave on Monday, but I am a free man on Sunday'. It celebrates the joy of walking, and references The Kinder Trespass of 1932, when over 400 people crossed the plateau of Kinder Scout in a protest which highlighted the fact that walkers in England and Wales were denied access to areas of open country. This led to the Right to Roam Act, and the formation of our National Parks.
